WAHHHHHHHHH it appears that the Rex The Dog album is NOT out today after all! Well, it's not in Phonicaany shops, anyway. It appears to be listed on Boomkat or Amazon but not "shipping" yet? DON'T MAKE ME RUB YOUR NOSE IN IT, REX.

I threw caution to the winds and bought the new Lindstrøm albumen instead though.

Police mysteriously somehow find some METAL OBJECTS (gasp) in the same area as Climate Camp, make wild extrapolations, and eventually admit that there is no evidence linking them to the eco-protesters.

madness. [Aug. 4th, 2008|08:55 am]
[info]julietk is currently witnessing DREADFUL behaviour from the police at climate camp - read [info]uon's post about it here. Luckily she seems to be fine; I'm a bit worried that there are people with head injuries and that the police are denying the ambulance access though.

Hmmmmm.

[mood |lunchtime!]

[info]mrs_leroy_brown chose some of my interests and I get to witter about them! :)

garlic as a vegetable
Om nom nom nom GARLIC. Oh man, I love garlic. I don't understand people who add a tiny little bit, say half a clove or whatever, to their cooking. You may as well add NONE - I am looking at you, Gordon Ramsay. And if you're making roasted vegetables, you need to treat the garlic as a vegetable in its own right - ie put several heads of it in there rather than a weedy clove or two. EQUAL RIGHTS FOR GARLIC.

little greg's awesome hair
Hehe I was hoping that Bec would choose this one :) Right, you know CSI: Original And Best Flavour, right? Little Greg Sanders (calm down ladies) is the dude who starts out as a mere "lab rat", running DNA analyses and identifying hairs and the like, but in later series he becomes a Proper Srs CSI and goes about doing Proper Srs Investimagations and all that. Greg's hair is a character all on its own! In the early days it's sometimes asymmetrical with BADGER STRIPES, in seasons 3-4 it's all spikey with GEL and Greg sometimes looks like a bit like a lion who's put his paw in the mains socket; he is also prone to breaking out the bleach and dyeing random bits of it blonde. It's a wonder that Grissom doesn't send him home, some days. I don't know if Eric whatshisface who actually PLAYS Greg gets to choose his own hair, but if he does: GOOD ON YOU ERIC. Anyway, in the latest season Greg's hair is very dull and flat (not unlike the plots hur hur) and I am in mourning :(

Oh my g0d I have just realised that Greg is THE BRAINY ZOOLANDER :0

phone rage
I am actually v good at talking on the phone, but some of the idiots I have to deal with, you know? Anyway, phone rage is my name for what happens when you've smiled and nodded and acquiesced your way through a conversation with a compete DOLT, and subsequently take your rage out on the now hung-up phone by shouting obscenities at it. Sorry, phone :(

radio nigel
Oh MAN I haven't listened to Radio Nigel for aaages. In iTunes there is a section called, er, "indie and alternative" or something? Radio Nigel is in there and basically plays (or played) nonstop awesome proper pop and alternative (or alternative-ish) hits from the '80s or thereabouts e.g. teh Cures, Smiths, Martha & The Muffins, Go-Gos, Depeche Mode, Gina X Performance, Belle Stars, Siouxie, XTC, Wall Of Voodoo ect ect ect. It is very US-based so some of the songs are unfamiliar, or have you screaming "ALTERNATIVE?! What's so alternative about s0dding SPANDAU BALLET FFS!?" but there's generally not a bad tune to be had on old Nige.

soup records
Is a record label started by Jamie and Tap from Tompaulin, to showcase some of the awesome tunes being recorded at Soup Studio. The first compilation had tunes by the Loves, Television Personalities and Finlay if I recall correctly. I don't think anything else has appeared on the label but the studio is still going strong!

tiny wee amps
Tiny guitar amps! They are so cute. I have a tiny tiny Fender amp but the tiniest of all amps (probably, I bet [info]sbp will correct me) is the Pignose. Pig! Nooooose! SO CUTE ♥ x 1000 etc.

BEEEEEEEEFFFF

BEEF WITH CSI (cut bcs of SPOILERS, dudes! Do not read if you wish to stay unspoiled for Original CSI Season 8 Finale!) )

I am also experiencing beef with the following: Idiot estate agents who never bother to update their websites (presumably in the expectation that suckers like yrs truly will ring them up asking about long-since let flats, and can therefore be suckered into viewing OTHER, more expensive, flats), idiot people who keep interrupting me when I'm having a conversation, idiot lorry drivers who yell at cyclists for merely BEING in the road (I didn't get yelled at but someone else did and I felt sorry for him - I mean god, what kind of caffeine-and-testosterone-fuelled jerk even has the ENERGY to shout that loudly in the morning - OH WAIT the clue is in the question)... oh god the list goes on. I'm in a FOUL mood.

But happy birthdays to Bob and Ben!

[music |ricardo villalobos - easy lee]

- I got home and heard a weird scuffling noise in the kitchen. Upon further investigation it transpired that there was a BIRD banging about behind the net curtain trying to headbutt its way through the kitchen window! I have NO IDEA how it got in there, but I obviously opened the window and it seemed a little startled at its newfound freedom; it teetered on the ledge for a second before launching off with a very angry-sounding SQUAWK.

- this incident has inspired me to drink some PASTIS, even though I really shouldn't be drinking. I am already doing aniseedy burps, marvellous.

- I am also being v organised and doing lots of cooking etc.

- work continues RIDIC.

- blah.

That was the WORST CSI I have EVER seen and even Little Greg's hair could not redeem it. Not only did they give a full and frank explanation of "jumping the shark" (AS IF ONE WAS NEEDED), they also nicked a line from Sneezy :(

[music |the ceiling fans]

I just cycled in in THIRTY TWO MINUTES! Despite Multiple Towpath Error (ie the "Two Tings" ppl are all very well but they were TOTALLY blocking the path by - guess what - standing in the MIDDLE of it, though I did take a sticker. Also - don't read this bit [info]katstevens! - there was a woman feeding pigeons UNDER A BRIDGE so that the entire path under the bridge was blocked with a mass of heaving pigeons! FFS! Oh and a squirrel ran out in front of me on Boleyn Road and stopped to look enquiringly at the enormous mass of metal and rubber and shrieking cyclist bearing down on it. Where is their fear eh where oh where)

In other news, further updates will have to WAIT as I am still totally snowed under at work. Sadface.

what i did at thee weekend [Apr. 21st, 2008|12:12 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]
[Current Location |werk]

A very lazy and almost entirely lovely weekend (the only non-lovely bit = the fact that a couple of friends are going through bad patches at the mo - sending good "vibes" to you all my lovelies) during which I:

- Drank too much BEER after work on Friday (curse you tasty Deuchars) with [info]martinskidmore, [info]carsmilesteve, [info]atommickbrane and [info]friedslice. This was obviously totally awesome but did mean that I fell ASLEEP during the ambient section of the Harmonia gig, hahaha! Harmonia were totally ace though, they managed to combine the old motorik thing with PROPER BANGING MINIMALIST BEATS at one point and I nearly fell over trying to contain my excitement!
- Did All The Cooking (beans with tomatoes and sage, patatas bravas, pizza x2, digestive biscuits). Unfortunately I also did All The Eating so I have put on about 2 stone :(
- Rushed around (but in a totally non-stressful way) being a social butterfly on Sunday afternoon - coffee over the road with a2, a3 (who is now a Stokey Resident, hurrah) and a4, then up to Islington to see the Gothical Hive Mind and KR, then back to Stokey on the Magical Bus for CSI:Sneezy with [info]katstevens and [info]boyofbadgers hurrah!
- Did exciting grocery shopping (alas the "exciting" bit is a bit of a lie, there)
- Got Exciting Post from [info]strange_idol! The "exciting" bit there is NOT a lie!
- Did lots of lovely sleeping and pottering about and reading the paper and drinking tea with my lovely PM
- Failed to get ANY washing or tidying done, haha I am useless :( Washing and tidying are therefore my tasks for tonight.

Things I need to Sort Out This Week include:
- various bits of correspondence
- aforementioned washing and tidying
- re-entering the Land Of The Sober
- oh goodness, sorting out the balcony...
- updating the 101 list as I've made a bit more progress on that too!

The more GOTHICALLY-minded ppl on my friends list may like to note that on 30th April the Borderline Club is hosting "An Evening With James Marsters". This fact made me larf like a drane as I stood shivering outside the Borderline last night before, going to IN to the club see Jana Hunter and Phosphorescent play an gig. Jana Hunter was pretty awesome; she has a Proper Country Yowl on her and plays submariney guitar through a bunch of delay pedals. Oh, and she looks about 12! I had to leave after one Phosphorescent song, as I was about to fall over through tiredness, but I did see him make a GRATE BIG NOISE with his amplified nylon-string acoustic, and sing a song about some wolves. And I got to cuddle PM lots and drink orange juice and talk to A4 and Mat, so that was all good :)

Tonight I am going to see ancient Krautrockers HARMONIA play on the South Bank! I am super-excited bcs a) mmm Krautrock and b) mmmmmmm seated gig, god I am so old :)

How are you lot? What you up to at the weekend?
